painting a carberator

I paint every carb I rebuild. After assembly, I tape off all mating surfaces and give it a couple of coats of rattle can color. Do your best to keep paint out of the interior surfaces of the carb.

There's a reason carbs aren't painted.

The next guy that has to work on this thing is gonna have a fit trying to keep all that peeled off paint out of the tiny passages.

I use Kylon clear. There are different finshes, mat, gloss etc. I usually do two very light coats. Dries really fast if the tempature is above say 75. Take a q-tip and carefully put grease or vaseline on any surface or holes you don't want painted. Let the paint dry for awhile and put carb cleaner on a rag and wipe the grease off.

I use model airplane clear, which is fuel resistant. The brand is LustreKote Crystal Clear number TOPR7501 www.top-flite.com Spray Can.

only trick is to be sure it's perfectly clean and degreased before you paint it, like anything else, but a carb has a lot of nooks and crannies.

Other than that, just mask the obvious.
