Hello,

Can anyone tell me what the dimensions are for a John Deere #51 plow? I"m going to buy one but trying to see if it will fit the bed of my truck. Also, how easy is it to disconnect the hitch from the plow to shorten it? I have a Dodge Ram with a 6 1/2 foot length bed.

Thanks.

4 foot 8inches wide from outside wheel to wheel and 9foot 6 inches long. 2 bolts and the adjusting rod and tongue should come off. I would take a peice of 2x8 or something close to that to put under the point so you don't dent your truck bed. Good Luck John

John,

Thanks for the response. I was measuring 4 foot 8 inches and it looks like one of the wheels on the plow will have to sit on one fender in truck. Does that sound about right? Also, I was hoping the 9 foot length could be cut down a few feet by removing the hitch. Has this been your experience when hauling in your truck?

Thanks,
Randy

I have a trailer so don't haul them in the truck bed. The hitch will shorten the plow by 3 feet or so but the levers will still hang out. I did haul a #44 home the other day in the truck, only a couple miles. Wheels where tight to fenders and hitch was hanging off the tailgate. I think if you remove the hitch and maybe the plow will set in the box on an angle so one wheel is not on your fender. Just an idea John
