Manure spreader without widespread

I am looking at a New Idea 205 manure spreader, at a local dealer, it is pto drive, needs new floor and sides out of wood. The are looking for $100 which doesn't seem bad. The widespread is missing on the back. Would the spreader just drop the manure the width of the spreader or would it not spread at all? I am needing one to help my girlfriend get rid of horse manure, easier and I get to spread it on the field! What are you thoughts, can I limp along with a good floor chain and new sides?
Thanks in adamce!

depends on what she is using for bedding, straw or old hay won't spread to good, but saw shavings might spread but you made need to make a sliding tail gate that lifts up and down to adjust what the chain is pulling out. maybe look around for an old rear beater of a junk spreader? Good luck with it.

She is using shavings and some junk hay gets mixed in. I'm going to look at a junk spreader today for the beaters. Thanks for the advice!

I've had the chain come off that drives the widespread beater and when it doesn't spin it only throws it the width of the spreader

I bought one without the wide on the back.. It will sling it with the beaters alittle wider than the spreader.. I found a junked one on a guys farm.. he let me take the wide spread off his and I adapted it for mine.. makes a big difference

The New Idea No. 205 spreader is what is called a flail spreader and it does not have a widespread as such, the flails do all the shreading and spreading and it is a 160 bu capacity spreader built starting in 1961 to 1964.. I thought something did not sound correct and got out the parts book S 52 for the 201,202,203,205,206,207,208 &210 spreaders. There was 1 lot built in 61, 4 lots built in 62, none in 63 but 1 in 64.
