Pasture mowing wheel for sickle bar mower?

Used to be there were little wheel attachments you could buy, that bolted on a sickle bar to raise it up a bit for pasture mowing, but they don't seem to be available anymore.

Anyone got a picture of one or an instruction sheet on how to use it? I'm thinking of building one, if I can find a little more info.

Oh I'd also be interested in buying one if anyone has one they don't need.

I found a wheel with a flat base on it at TSC or a farm and home store. The base had four holes in it and they matched the guard bolt holes. Used two of the holes and mounted the wheel under the guards. Works fine, put it about midway of the bar.

Sure wish you had a pic of what your talking about. I can mount wheels on the outer shoe, Cant figure how to do it around the inner.
Ill be cutting Hay grazer, and want to cut it around 6in high

Wish I had one too. They were still in the Temco catalog, best I can recall, maybe 10 years ago. As I recall you put them a little over half way out towards the end of the sickle bar, so they steadied it in the middle and kept the bar from waving about too wildly.

Though some might suggest that they fact they don't seem to be sold anymore is a reflection on their worth.

I have one, used it for 20+ years on 7 & 9' sickle bar mowers to trim pastures. Mine bolts on the end shoe in place of the adjustable skid shoe. It is a 3/8" x 2 1/2" x 8" long piece of mild steel that a six inch pneumatic tire and wheel bolts to. I also use a limit chain from the top of the three point arch on the mower to the inner shoe to set its height. Both the chain limit and the end shoe roller will give a nice level 6,9, or 12" trim on a pasture with weeds coming up through. I have never seen one mounted on the center of a bar. It could work just as well.

We had one, I think it was made by Deere. We even built spacers for the inner shoe to space it up as well. We had a 7' bar so it didn't sag much in the middle.

I think our wheel may still be up at the farm, haven't seen or thought of it in years.
