King Kutter rototiller, Junk???

My dad has a Kuhn rototiller and the gear box flew all apart. It costs just as much to fix it as what a king cutter costs. Are these king cutter tillers junk?

I don't see the point in fixing his if we can get one that built better for the same price

I have had a 5 foot king kutter for 4 years and it has done a great job. Just don't let the clutch get loose. Russ

I've owned a KK ll tiller for over 10 yrs. I just put a new set of tines on it to replace the worn out tines. It's given excellent service.

I'll bet the slip clutch on your Dads tiller is frozen.

King cutter is a bargain priced, consumer grade product. Basically junk.

The Kuhn is top of the line. If it were mine, I'd fix it.

The kuhns gears are made from a low carbon cast steel. And they should have been spur gears. the shaft that also broke twisted like a candy cane before it broke. After we got it apart we found where teeth had been breaking off for years. One of the broken teeth finally hop up and bound it up. We only use it on a few acres and its rock free.

My daughter and her ex had a King Kutter and it never gave any problems. Seemed to be a decent piece of equipment. I was tilling my garden one day and it picked up a piece of inch and a quarter angle iron about a foot long and slammed it into the shield. It stopped so fast that it choked the tractor but did no damage to the tiller except poked a hole through the shield.

I have a 6' King Kutter and have been using it for over 10 years. In my opinion, it is a solid unit. I broke a Lower 3 point pin on it, so I think it is solid or just a bad pin. I do need to change the tines on it one of these years. Only drawback is that mine doesn't have a drain plug to change the oil in the side gear box.

I bought a near new 6 foot KK. Use it with a Super Dexta and of course do the EZ stuff like gardens and yard for seeding. Found a bigger tractor was a waste with it. Used a dozer to root rake new pasture and the KingKutter to level and cut up the roots. Lots of stuff left. Was pleasantly surprised it CUT the roots, broke the downed limbs chopping it up well. I did not have to level anything before seeding, despite all the dozer ruts. Lots of rocks and stumps and not a problem. I figure if I wear it out clearing these 50 acres, its paid for.
But not once in this first 10 acres have I had to stop and unravel roots. Expected more problems.
After grass came up, I drove around with a gator and picked up the rocks and stumps that was on top, the rest will rot.
I am only doing 5 or so acres at time, as this is not level ground, and I don't want all my soil in the river.
Compared to the Italian and chinese rotortillers, and my previous FORD rotor tiller, this thing is great. I priced tine replacement, and that was more than I paid for mine used.
If its junk, its the better quality junk.

We've got a 5 ft KK on a 50 hp compact JD have used it pretty hard. Run the fields with it and till in the washes. My neighbor uses a 35 ft disk-vater and a 350 hp JD.
