Thinkin of painting this 24T. It needs a lot of prep. I am wondering if is possible to get a good job with a brush or does it have to be sprayed. Also how much disassembly should I think of doing . I am painting to keep it not sell it. Thanks

If you're going to do a lot of prep I would use an epoxy primer along with a good grade of paint.
I would also use a spray gun, it will put paint where a brush won't. Your baler will then look new. Hal

Well... if you want it to look like a brush job, use a brush. Really, if you just want to protect the metal and you"re not worried about it looking too particular, then that works fine with minimal prep. If you want near showroom appearance then take it down to bare metal and prime it, then paint...
I don"t think I"d do a whole lot of disassembly myself unless it"s real bad scale in behind stuff that needs chipped off and covered.
Keep it simple. Brush or rattle can works fine.

To do a good paint job one needs to remove the pickup attachment from the baler. I never seen anyone paint metal with a brush without leaving brush marks

cast iron parts are one thing - brush strokes hide well enough on the rough surface if you're careful.

But sheetmetal, especially wide areas, it's going to be obvious it was brushed.

If you're just trying to protect the metal - who cares, as long as you have some color on it. But if you want it to look nice, you need to spray.

(of course, spraying doesn't instantly equal nice paint job, but you can get good results even if it's you're first time, if you're careful)

If you're asking because you don't have a spray gun - even a low/mid price gun is going to give you good enough results.
