McCormick Deering No7

found a No7 for a good price from a neighbor. Its complete and works. I did have a couple questions. Where can I get replacement parts for the bar, knives, guards, etc. I did some research online and it appears that tractor mower parts will interchange but not sure. Also I need to replace the seal behind the pitman drive flywheel if someone knows a source for that. I will be using it with horses.

That #7 is heavy on their necks. you want to put a dolly wheel on it . Check some of the draft horse publications like Small Farmers Journal. Or The Reach.

Thanks, thats what I hear. I guess the teamster in the seat doesnt provide enough counter balance. Would like to find a No9 but no luck. Just did some checking and Mcnairs seems to have just what I need and hes only an hour away from me. Still wondering if the bar parts are an off the shelf item.

I think you can get blades and gaurds from Tractor Supply type places. People used to hang a big weight down from the seat to counter balance.

A No. 9 with new cutter bar parts and toung if needed and ready for field, no paint, that is extra, retails for $1,100. Just a couple of weeks ago delievered for dealer friend 2 of the No. 9 units, this was in northeast Indiana and the farmer that bought them was going to take them to Misoury? when he moves this year. Parts mower only if wheels are usuable is $150, more if rebuildable. Same range for a No. 7, Toung truck is extra.

$100
inaddition to the bar needing new knives and the oil seal which if found for $4.50. I need to make a new grassboard. McNair"s sells those for $60 already made. so it sounds as if I did ok

The grass boards they are using now I can buy new for less than $40. Sections are I think $.85 each, I could get that seal but do not know price. Last fri the dealer had a No. 7 100% apart starting a rebuild and was in prossess of painting.

The place I work with is a one man Amish repair shop and machinery dealer that speclizes in the Horse drawn mowers, the McCormick No. 7 & No. 9 and Deere Big 4 mowers. He is not set up to be able to do shipment of parts. I live about 50 mile away from him and have bought parts from him and he has bought machinery from me. He is just outside of Berne, In. if you are close enough to make a drive. His cousin also deals in machinery and speclizes in the steel wheel horse drawn hay rakes, this last year I supplied him with a dozen of them plus some other machinery this past year. Lot more to get ready this year. Then there is anouther Amish dealer in the area but he is higher in price. He would ship parts tho. The first and third places rebuild those mowers. I know they put new seals in them when needed but I think they are probably a new type to last better. I do have the parts books for those mowers so when I get up there sometime in the next month I could ask about the parts for you if you are interested but shipping on some of the items would be prohibitave. If there are any Amish comunities around you there should be some place like these. Not many of the mowers were built with 6' bars but that is what they prefer so the one I found out is making then by using 2 of the 5' bars and cutting and welding them together. And you cannot tell they were done that way. They convert them to sealed bearings on the pitmans. What I am saying is there should be places to get things a lot cheaper than like TSC or Rual King. Side rake teeth I can buy from them for less than half the price those store want. If you want to work thru me on those items email me at [email protected]. I also know a shop that makes the straight roller bearings in any size needed, standard is cheaper but he can do any size needed. Says he can cut gears as well ,also Amish.

You can call Norman Macknair for parts,717-543-5136. He works on these mowers for the Amish trade. He also will ship.
