draining a pond

Looks like the pond will not be at spillway this year. Actually it's a main area (bowl) that was expanded to an additional area at "low tide" so that when the level is about 5 ft low, the bowl seals off the new area.

However the new area is about 4' deep at the edge of the bowl of the original area. I have Coontail moss and algae. Thought about getting a 2" pump and pumping out the new area to fill up the bowl when the water gets really low this summer.

Anybody do this and what am I up against, other than lots of mud?

Thanks,
Mark

Wait until the driest part of summer, pump out the pond, hire track loader to cut out the ridge area, thereby connecting the 2 pond areas at all levels. Tom

That's an option. Have thought about it. Might do it. Just make a big mess and no place to put the goo.

Thanks,
Mark

Gubberment would be all over your tail in my state, my county, if you mess with a wetland like that. Neighbor did so tried to go legal, took 3 years to get permits, then he did something wrong, was 2 years of threarts until everyone simmered down....

conservation track hoe with long reach can do a lot in one day. call your local pond excavator see what he says. push up an island.

That's a good idea and would work.

On the problem messing up a wetland, in my case it's not a wetland. It's a very dry hill on private property, with the right to capture surface water which is from rain only, and I paid to have it dug.

Thanks,

Mark
