T Rod Spreader Chain

G-Son managed to tear my spreader chain apart yesterday. It's a t-rod and I've never heard of one "just breaking". It was about ten years old, and in excellant shape- until yesterday. And the load was just about off when it 'just broke'. How a couple of slats got wrapped around the front of the spreader bed is a mystery. And, now, about half of the links on one side are missing in a corn field.....

I lost a bunch in the field two years ago. I don't know how it kept coming around for as long as it did before it got sideways. I went out with the 4 wheeler and rode real slow, leaning off over the side with my eyes to the ground. I found two or three at a time every so far. Didn't find all of them though. Had to take a trip to the dealer.
The New Idea that I have now had KIND of a T-bar type, but instead of being the square link,it's a looped round rod bent in a U shape with another 90 degree bend at the ends to hook them together. Don't know if it's stronger than the square type or not.

I don't like the ones made from rod. We have that in our H&S right now and the sprockets are wearing to a point to fit the chain. If it ever wears out I'm gonna push to go back to the square links. The sprockets will need to be replaced too.
