I have an IHC corn binder, ground drive. Someone has put on a thick gear, 1in wide thereabouts. Its been welded to the gatherer wheel side wheel with piecwes of channel iron to keep it around 2 to 3in away from the wheel.
What do you think it was for?
I have the long elevator for it, and it takes its drive off of a gear in back, so I dont know what this gear would be for.

You sure it's not just for a wheel weight? They may have needed extra traction and that sounds like a heavy gear. Of course as always a pic would help.

It looks like the same thickness as a manure spreader bull gear, only alot smaller dia. Its just the ring, nothin g inside of the gear like spokes/hubs/ect. Probably weighs 10lbs max

Could be. The guy I had bought it from got it with the carrier seperated for shipping and never put it together. I havnt used it yet so I havnt put it together either. Seems tho like it would move allfully slow with a gear that big.
