IH 5100 drill

Can you replace just the bearings in the press wheels on this drill? or would i be further ahead cost wise just to pull them off and run a sprocket packer over the field after i plant it?

Yes you can and you do not want to plant without the press wheel.

That is what controls the depth that you plant.

Without the press wheel you may plant to deep in soft soils.

Not real familiar with the hub but you may have to grind the rivots off and replace with bolts to replace the bearings.

Steve, Depending on what you plant, you don't always need press-wheels. I plant oats & wheat with my 5100 and I pull a brillion culti-packer behind. I believe only the "Soy-Bean Special" 5100 drills had the press-wheels as standard. But I have seen others using 5100s without press-wheels to even plant soybeans. My neighbor has a JD 8300 and he plants soybeans without press-wheels. Al
