Rear standard on hay wagon

What do you use to hold rear standard on small bale hay wagon? Got one where they bolted the vertical to the extended rails and they are broken. All I can remember as a kid was a strap of steel bolted on and the posts dropped in so it was removable. Anyone got a pic or detail or where to go to get it right? Thanks

We always just bent them out of 1/4" X 3" flat stock, to fit the rail that they were to be bolted to. You might be able to search stake pocket bracket, or something similar. I know agrisupply.com sells them, to bolt to flat boards, or truck beds.

Lazy man's way to make a stake pocket is to use 2 pieces of 1 1/2 x 1/4 angle three inches long and one piece of 1/4 x3 flat 4 inches long. weld all together and you should have a pocket that a 1 1/2 x3 1/2 (2X4) will fit into. Then you need to drill bolt holes. No heating and bending

I make them big enough to hold a 4x4. Lots more strength than just a 2x4

I used to have the same problem. "Bolted on" stake pockets as such for a hay rack standard don't hold. The lag bolts always pull out. Take a piece of 1/4 by 3 (or four) inch flat iron about 1 1/2 ft or two ft long and bolt those to the main beams under the wagon. Extend them out past the end of the wagon and then weld 1' long pieces of 2 1/2" square tubing (vertically) to the extended straps. Build your rack with 1 1/2" pipe uprights that will rest in the sqaure tubing. 'Never broken one of those yet.

I now unload off the back of my wagons due to the configuration of the space I have. I have removed the rack from my main wagon and I am thinking that if I need to haul hay down the road I will strap the rear section down extra well. I got a big roll of 2" strap material at an auction for $2 and got a couple of 2" ratchets from Surplus Center to match that I can mount to the rear of the wagon on the sides. They tighten with a wrench so I should be able to get them good and tight.
