clevis ring

In yesterdays post I reported a tail dragging problem with my 4B plow. I think I solved the problem. I manufactured a clevis ring for the plow and I think the length is the problem. What do you guys think? See pictures. Ellis

The attaching point at the draw bar must TIGHT, no lateral swing no shuck no up and down motion . If it is not totally non moveable it will not work right.as far as being to long, that is not nor will ever be the problem. If using an UNSTYLED tractor, the SQUARE end of the draw bar must face the plow. If styled the draw bar will only attach to the tractor one way anyway.

Here is a pic of the clevis that came with that plow. (the long narrow one) It is JD # D 834 A and came with the plow. Sold the last one I had but ocasionally they come up on e-bay . Usually takes $75 to get a good one. You had the right idea but loke you said, a little long. Also a pic of the larger and later G 675 A clevis. About the same price but not correct for the 4 B.

He is using a Farmall M, not a Deere tractor. And that about swing on drawbar, that will have no efect. Our plows were the lighter No. 52 version but used the same style latch. And all we ever had was just the twist clevice with just a pin. On one it was behind a 41 H Farmall, the other was first behing a 38 A Deere, later a 49 B Deere, a 46 B Deere and a TO 30 Ferguson.

If he is using a Farmall M, all he needs is a twisted clevis, attached directly the horseshoe part of the drawbar. No extensions of anykind, and do not use the swinging drawbar.
