Leveling the head on Hesston 1070

How does one go about getting the head leveled out on a haybine? I"ve noticed that the right side skid plate hits the ground before the left, and there is conciderable dirt build up on the sickle on that right side.

I'd second the skid plate idea. There are different holes that you can adjust that to.
If it's like the 1120,there's an adjustment bolt and a slot on the far outside and far inside of the head, but I think adjusting that only changes the angle of the guards.

It sounds like you need to adjust the flotation springs. With the head down, you should be able to put two fingers under the knockdown bar, and lift the header slightly on each side.

Could also be a wrong size tire on one side being either too big on the high side or too small on the low side.

Ok, thanks guys. The tires and inflation are the same. The skid plates are mounted on the same holes, although eyeballing them it looks like the right one is higher somewhat. Now the spring may be an issue as I replaced one of them when I bought the machine. I'll give that a look over tomorrow.

Spring adjustment. mIGHT ALSO NEED TO BE ADJUSTED ACCORDING TO the tractor it is hitched to....drawbar height. Check the OP manual....might have info re how many pounds lift on the header.....that"s how the dealer set up my 5209 NI discbine in 1991. Excellent, meticulous dealer!

That is not an uncommon condition. Sometimes guys will adjust the springs with the mower in road position, which won't work. It has to be in working position to get it right.

I am not famiular eith that paticular machine but the older version we had used two different sizes from factory and if you had put both the same size on it would have had that problem, larger tire on pto side.
