Help with a manure spreader

Hi guys it"s Bryce again. Alright, so I just finished pressure washing that manure spreader and here is what I have found. All of the part numbers that I have found start with L. and have four numbers after it. There is also a printed number on the left side just above the tire. It is L. 3679. The metal frame and a few other components is green, and all of the metal holding the wood, and some of the wood is orange. The handle on the left side of the spreader engages the spinning tines. I think the handle on the right controls deck speed? I am thinking about restoring this piece, if I can figure out what it is. Any help on a brand, model, and time of production would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Bryce

That looks New Idea but looks smaller than the 12A I have sitting here. The tops of the box sides aren't angled and the tongue doesn't have an integral jack. Might be newer. The metal looks like NI, though.

On at least some of them they riveted a serial number to the frame on the right front corner (if you were sitting on the tractor). It should be visible without crawling under it. Just an implement sized tag.

Bryce, please take a picture showing the left wheel and post and see if you can find a part number on that big sprocket just in back of that wheel and post or just send me an email at [email protected] With the part number off that sprocket if it is a New Idea I can tell by that but I do not think it is. as none of the New Ideas had straight sides like that in a tractor spreader. The only strait side models were the No. 6, No. 7 No. 8 and No.9 spreaders but they were all 4 wheel spreaders. I might have to change that as the No. 11 might have had straight sides but it was also a 4 wheel spreader, the 10 & 10A 4 wheel spreaders had angle sides along with the 14-14A and the larger and more popular 12-12A 2 wheel spreaders but they all had the angle sides. I have the parts books for all the 2 didget spreaders and some for the 3 didgit spreaders but yours is not one of them. I have 3 12A plus 2 No. 8 and a No. 9 here right now and supposed to get a 10A home to repair the frame for a friend.

Bryce, I think that spreader is a Case and not a New Idea. Both used green and orange paint and the green is very close in color on both. Try posting on the Case section of this site.

Bryce, I just pulled out my parts book for the New Idea No. 18 spreader and it definatly does not match in any way the picture in the parts book. The No. 18 had the flair sides, a steel front end gate and the toung-hitch is entirely different. The No. 18 was first built in 1955. If it is not a Case then it is some short line company that was not sold in Ohio. And the New Idea spreaders were made about 50 mile from me.

What is throwing me is the hitch looks like channel iron or I beam. I wondered if it was David Bradley but the hitch does not look right for that either. DB did use a straight sided box.

It appears to be missing something on the hitch. It also has some additional metal rails that I think were the top pieces you guys were talking about, there just isn't any wood left.... I really think that it is a new idea, I will try to get you more pics, thanks, Bryce.

Bryce, I am thinking along with cowman that it is a David Bradley spreader, they were red with green wheels and also some green trimming. I haven't had time to dig out my catalogs for a good picture check but they did run 20" wheels as it apears that yours has.
