Good Afternoon,

We have an old running gear that were told was 30's JD.
There is no identification on the r.g.
The wheels are wood spoke with a single lug.
It had a flare side wood box that we took off to build our Sheep Wagon on.

Any help in would be greatly appreciated.

BTW It is for sale too. : )
It will be at the Waverly IA auction on April 2.

Thanks

A picture would be a huge help - as far as a running gear I am not sure. I have a friend that wants a JD running gear with spoked rims (like on JD plows) on rubber. From what I have seen in part's manuals JD never made such a thing. It was steel, to rubber tires with solid rims.

I can picture what you have - being bigger/tall wheels with wood spokes...you see them from time to time, but not sure if that's a 'running gear' but maybe older for horses? or just transport around the farm? A picture would go along ways I think!

Badger08, The model gear your friend would want is the 802 gear that just had brass sleeve bushings for bearings and was only built as a steel wheel version so he would have to be looking for a gear with cutoff wheels and the wheels probably would be out of round so would need to get them rebuilt to get round and then that gear was only a 2 ton gear designed for horse speeds with a fast horse of 4 MPH.

Leroy - good info. He had a gear home last summer and said I think this is it. And I said well as far as I knew JD never made a factory rubber tired spoked wagon. So went and looked at it and sure enough, spoked rims, rubber tires, but they were cut down. Then he got to looking at it closer and said yep, it sure isn't very heavy duty. And I said no there were made on steel and just not made for the loads - so he passed. Nothing wrong with a 953 or so with regular rims in my opinion.
