Air compressors

I need to up date my air compressor. The one I have was made to air up tires and maybe blow a little dirt, 4 or 5 cfm's. Worked good until I got the shop built.

Here locally I can buy a "Puma" or a "Built Farm Tough" by Sanborn Mfg. I want at least a 150 psi 230 volts. Are these good machines or do I need to go else where?

I bought an 80 gal upright Sanborn from menards about 4 yrs ago. It works good, problem it's I think, about 2.5 HP and doesn't fill as fast as I'd like for high pressure work (sand blaster)
It was around $800.00 plus/minus. Wish I had spent another $400-$500 for a 5 hp model

Prices have come down. I bought one from Tractor Supply for about $450 with sales tax. It's an aluminum compressor but at my age I think it will last me out. If I were younger I would have bought a cast iron one.

I bought an old railroad compressor off a craigslist ad. 5HP, 100 psi constant pressure with a 100 gallon tank. Gave around $150 for it. You see them from time to time.

Sure as heck ain't portable, but plumbed the shop to it and works great.

whatever brand you buy I would try and get one that has the motor and compressor separate.

around 5/6 hp, 230 volts.

I have had craftsman compressors for years and they worked fine. I did not drain the tank enough, thought I did, but the tank rusted out, but found another one,
need to change oil in compressor at least once per year. (keep a tag on compressor to remind you to change oil),

I like one with wheels so I can take it to the machine sometimes, if I do not have enough hose.

one in the picture would make a good shop compressor, larger tank would be better, but then its not so portable.
