From what you say you want to haul I have no idea if you are in the states or elseware, so I just have to go with the american models. The John Deere if it is a 943 is a 3 ton gear and is designed different than all the other 3 digit gears. The 902, 951, 952 and 953 are all 4 ton gears and the 963 looks just about the same as the 953 except it has a reinforced tougn and I think the axle is a quarter inch taller and is a 5 ton gear. The 802 is a steel wheel gear that only came with spoke type steel tire wheels with just brass bushing type of bearings and was designed for use with horses and I don't think it carried a weight rating. And that is all the 3 digit models sold in the USA, the 4 digit models I am not famiular with.

The one you are thinking might be a Wards to be a 6 ton would have to have a 6 lug wheel. The 5 lug were 4 to 5 ton models with some of the lighter weight 4 lug models being only a 3 ton gear. Most would be the 4 ton models same as with the Deere.

Leroy,
You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about EWC made running gears. I've got what I think is a Electric Wheel Co. Gear model 650. A week ago I didn't know a thing about it but have logged a bunch of time on the computer. I found an add from EWC for the 1951 wagon. Mine has to be a '51 or newer. It's got 5 bolt wheels. Whats the load capacity on it? I'm in the process of a total restoration on it (sandblast, powder coat, new tires etc). More questions if your interested.
