Ih 56 narrow row??

Moving the old ih 56 to 30" rows. It is a planter that appears to let you flip the wheels to make it narrow enough. Anyone ever successfully done this? I had tried last spring but ran out of time messing with it. How can I know for sure that my wheels are indeed the ones that allow for 30" rows? I understand from reading past posts there was a design change in late model ih 56 planters that allowed for narrow adjustment.

Thanks Zach

The model #58 is set up to be either a 4 row wide or 6 row narrow. The model #56 is 4 row only and some came be switched to 4 row narrow. If you have an owners manual, it will help a lot in how to switch it over and how to measure it when moving row units. Have had all 3 planters 2 -#56 one with the fixed tire location and one that could be flipped and also had a #58. The 58 had a wider frame that allowed to add 2 more row units to make it a 6-30

I did it to mine years ago.Worked great.IH used to sell a spacer that let you move the outer fertilizer spouts in so the hose doesn"t run on as much of an angle.I reccommend it if you can find one.
