I found a manure spreader that I am interested in purchasing, however, I was told that it needed a little repair to the gear that drives the chain was broke & needed repaired. he said that the case that was around the gear part broke off & that it held a spring that kept the tension on it to make it ratchet the driveshaft that moves the chain in the bed of the spreader.

Is this fixable & how available are the replacement parts?? Thanks for the help

Those parts would be the same on the H that is a tractor spreader, possibly the same on the Newer L & R tractor spreaders so this gives you an idea where to look. The John Deere parts web site did have the books for all there but this computor I have nor for some reason will not let me open it.

Jim, Do you have a exploded view of the rear unloading sprockets on a JD type E000R, S# 040525 C? My E-mail is open.

I would have to look it up on the WWW BUT you can do the same thing if you choose to. Just go to JDparts.com and download the parts catalog. I'll bet it looks very close to the photo I posted. If you can't locate schematic you need post back. I looked on both views and you email isn't open for me.

if you pay scrap value (and I can't imagine paying more) - you really don't stand to lose much. If you can't find the parts, just scrap it.

John Deere will often surprise you with old parts in stock - and any dealer can typically find them right away for you - but they also very often tend to surprise you with what they expect you to pay for them.

Before committing, just stop into a dealer - they'll have the parts catalog if you know for sure what model/year it is, and you can at least find out.

If you're in love with an implement, that can be the way to go.

Otherwise it's scrap yards and the internet.

I can almost guarantee you WILL eventually find what you need if you're determined enough.

But to me - unless you have a good source and are familiar with the market, you're going to either spend a lot of money, time, or both.

I stay away from projects that are missing major components like that. I figure I can pretty much FIX anything - but there's usually not much you can do about missing parts.

If it's a fun little side project that's one thing - but if you're looking to use it this spring, I'd pass, and find one that at least has all the parts.
