JD planter monitor - M3?

Got myself a JD 6 row 7000 planter, upgrade from my 4 row
wide 7000.

Old planter had a nice but old Hiniker monitor, gave me seeds
per foot, acre, acres covered, etc. they told me 6 years ago
that monitor was discontinued 20 years ago, few parts
available.

This 6 row planter has a simple Dickey John monitor, some
blinking lights across the top, no acre counter. DJ site says
this one was discontinued long time ago as well. Didnt even
plug it in yet, suppose the flashing lights are fine, but I'm used
to a bit more info, acres are sure nice will miss that...

I know the 20-20 precision monitor is the way we are
supposed to go, for $6000 and up. Mostly way up.

I'm kinda looking at the M-3 monitor for the 1-2000 price tag.
Looks to be about what my Hiniker was. From agri-tronics.

How are they? I think I see JDSeller has one of these. What
type of speed sensor is best, the simple sprocket counter, or
the GPS deal?

Do the work on an open tractor, or do they need shelter from
weather?

I can't speak about the m3 as I've never been around them but the jd computrac 250 has all the info such as acres, plant pop, spacing, turn rows on or off etc. I think getting the gps speed senser is the way to go because the radars are on the way out and I think the gps speed senser is around $400 more or less. As far as drives There are still many sprocket drive planters running today. I run an adjusta rate 2 gps and like it. It's pretty acurate but it's outdated by todays standards.

I am running a JD 450 monitor on the 12 row and a JD 350 on the six row. I did use the radar readout form the tractor now I just use a GPS speed sensor. It was way cheaper than a new radar when my one quit. You can get them from AG Express.

You need to call Roger Kalsem at Waterloo Iowa.
He deals in used corn planters and implements. He should have a used monitor that would work for you for way less than what you are talking about. Your harness and seed tubes should work on the JD 250 or 350 monitor.

Give Roger a call. If he does not have anything email me I can check at my old dealership ans see what they may have left.
