Can anyone tell me the difference between a JD # 30 kicker and a # 40 kicker? I know the 40 is a little newer, i have done some searching but cant find out the difference, if any. Thanks for your time, Jay

The 40 replaced the 30 kicker. The 40 was available with electric distance controls. The kicker pan was a little heavier. There really where not any major things differences.

Thanks JD Seller, do you know how that electric distance contol worked, any good? I just picked up a #40 at a fair price, and it has the electric set up on the kicker but i have to get the contoler. i never used that before, is better then the manual set up?

There are two different electric controls. The full electric control has a joy stick that you controlled the distance by front to back on the joystick and left to right by just moving the joystick left to right.

Then you had a simpler control (last picture) that just had a rocker switch for the distance control and you still used a hydraulic cylinder on your SCV to control left or right. So look and see which you have. If your baler has a hydraulic cylinder for the tilt then you just have the electric distance control.

You will want to find the joystick control used if possible. The complete whole goods bundle BE23842 (#31 in the first picture) with out the electric motor and actuator is $1015.30.

The electric distance control only (last picture) is # BE23841 list $317.90.

You will need to have your dealer check these part numbers out as to make sure of which one you need and if they are still available. I am using current pricing through parts but that does not tell me if these whole goods bundles are still available.

The manual control is just a piece of pipe that is a two piece unit that one slides inside the other so you can adjust the length for your tractor. There is a a bracket and u-joint where it goes onto the pressure control valve.

A heads up if your baler has the electric tilt/actuator (#17in the second picture). This actuator through parts is #AE44763 with a list price of $1493.83.

The complete electric control bundle with both the tilt actuator, distance motor, complete harness, and the joystick control is whole good number # BE23853 list price $1662.10 (if this is still available)

So if yours does have the electric tilt/left-right control and the actuator goes bad you can get the complete bundle through whole goods with a second joystick control for just a little more than the actuator alone is through parts.

PS. The electric controls are the same between the 40 and 42 ejectors. JD Ottumwa (Hay equipment plant) did not change the electric controls when the 42 ejector came out.

So you need to see which control you need, complete control IE joystick or just distance IE rocker switch.

Email me and we can phone each other IF I have you too confused with all of this.

The electric control is nice if you are using a cab tractor. On an open station tractor I would just use a manual control. Simpler/cheaper.
I outlined what you will need to do/know on the electric control on the other posted reply.

JD Seller, Thank you for the detailed response! Thank God (due to price) lol, I only need the distance set up. I have the hyd tilt set up. I guess, if I wanted to use the manual set up on the #40 I would have to change out the electric set up to a manual set up like I had on my 30 kicker? Thanks again for the response

Check with Schmitt Imp. Holy Cross, Iowa. They used to be a JD dealer. They had several of the distance control boxes 6-7 years ago. I had a good friend that worked there then.

Their ph# is 563-552-1005

I have the pipe kind on my 346, with an open tractor. My father in law made an electric one for his 336 out of a power window motor from a car. I have used it and it worked good, never looked at how it is hooked up, but alot cheaper than the Deere factory ones.
