Rather than weld the key just Loctite the entire thing to the shaft. I used it all of the time to hold the wheel wedges in older IH tractors. Had a wheel come off the IH 1466 and it made a real mess. So I loctited the wedges. That stopped the problem. Plus if you loctite it if you need it apart you just have to heat it up and it will come back apart. Much better than welding it. |

| Yes loctite: better option than welding. Currently I've got an old piece of hack saw blade that I cut to size with tin snips wedged tight keep the key in place. I figure one or two more snowfalls and then I can let nature just do its thing.Jay |

| locktite!great idea.I shall remember that.Something I have done is to place a hoseclamp on the shaft next to the key.That is often enough to keep the key in place. |
