Electric fence trailer I built

Hello all. Been lurking here a while but this is my first real post. I built this wire winder / trailer for a friend of mine who has quite a few cattle that he puts on stalks every year. I built the trailer from scratch with 4 inch channel and square tube of a couple different sizes, and 3 inch pipe for the tongue and axle supports. Power is delivered via a PTO shaft I slavaged from an old square baler, 4 speed tranny from a junk yard, and 80 roller chain and sprockets. The tranny will give us a good range of speeds to choose from. Should get to try it out next week or so.

Certainly you added the pto cover and a chain guard after you took the picture to show us how it looks.

Pto shafts are so easy to forget to be careful around, and ESP with that design, a person can get way too close to an unprotected one. That would be terrible dangerous.

Just agree with me.......

Nice work otherwise, lot of potential use for the space.

Looks like something out of "STAR WARS" movies. I'll bet you put that in fourth gear you can wind up a mile of wire in about twenty seconds. Put some safety shields on that PTO shaft and those chains. I accidentally got my coat sleeve wrapped in the drive shaft of a sideroll irrigation sprinkler last summer and almost got my arm broke before the engine got shut off. No fun. Nice work on the trailer.

Nice Job! Is there a shear pin of slip joint somewhere in the drive train in case the wire or something else binds up? Again, nice rig!

There is a shear bolt where the driveline connects to the input shaft of transmission. Tried to save the slip clutch from the baler I got the driveline off of but it was too far gone.

It is really good work, very nice. However, on a negative note, the liability could rapidly be a big problem, if your friend gets caught in the shaft or the chain, etc. Him or his family, with aid of a skillful lawyer, could wind up with everything you own and ruin your family's future. Think about it. Tom

Thats really neat, and I will bet performs as you like, but like the others said, chain cover and pto cover and or any other safety components should most definitely be installed, asap. That aside, looks like a nice fencing tool and a great fabrication job !

I used to know a guy named Loren Moore from around Bryan, OH. He"d be over 80 now if my memory is right.
