| Hi Richard, if you have a 1950s Fordson Major tractor the correct Ransomes plough would be a TS59 2 or 3 furrow type. When I left school in 1958 I worked in the stores of an Agrecultral Engineering company who were Ransomes agents. I also have a 1956 Diesel Major in original condition witch my Uncle bought new. Where in the UK did you emigrate from Richard, I am from Newark Notts. MJ |

| | Good morning MJ, Thank you for the reply. I did not know the plough model number, so thank you for that! All I knew was that it was a semi-digger. The tractor we had "back then" was a 1954 FMD, and pulled a 3-furrow Ransomes. The ground varied between heavy boulder clay, and peat, which was infuriating!...as it would stick to the mouldboards of even a polished plough. We came from the Middlesbrough area of Cleveland, and when the farm was taken for developement, we farmed near Scarborough before coming over here. Gt Grandfather moved up into Yorkshire from the Boston area, and the family appears to have come from Links/Norfolk border. The Majors I have now are both 1962 Supers, one with a just re-built engine, and waiting for seals for rear end. These old tractors start better than most others in cold weather. Mind, I don't run the 90- weight in the rear end! Thanks again for your reply. Richard. |
