No Till Corn Planter Rental

Anyone in the Southeast ever "rent or lease" a no-till corn planter? if so, where?

Jim,

The Maury County Farmer's Co-Op in Columbia, TN rents a no-till planter. However, you need about a 5,000 horsepower tractor to pull it. My little Ford 2000 wouldn't be able to pull it across the parking lot.

WOW! I was lookin' for something a bit smaller to no-till 15 acres of long time hay field. Don't think my 72 HP Ford diesel would pull that either...hmmmm, maybe if I hooked my 8N in front to give some "real" HP? hehe

Look in the yellow pages for a feed,seed and fertilizer dealer.Real ag dealers have planters to rent or some loan with seed purchase.NO i dont mean tsc or other nonsense stores.

Don't be scared off by those that say how hard a no-till planter pulls. All you are doing is opening a slit in the ground 1 inch wide and about 1 and 1/2 inches deep, then filling it back up for each row planted. How much power can that take?

The first time I planted any no-till back in the late sixties, the largest tractor I had was a Ford 860. There was talk of how hard a planter pulled and a four row unit required a sixty HP tractor. The 860 pulled it easily in fourth gear at 1500 RPMs at four+ MPH as that was the recomended speed.

I have a neighbor who uses a 4600 Ford with a six row no-til and leaves his 5000 sitting in the shed. Says he just likes the 4600 better.
