CASEIH 420 Moldboard Plow

I have a CaseIh model 420 moldboard plow, three bottom 16 inch with a category two hitch. I want to hook it behind my Massey Ferguson 285. I measured from the center of the rear of the tractor, to the inside of the back tire and have 27 inches. The rear tire size is 18.4-30. Will this be to wide of a track setting for this plow? Thanks in advance.

Centerline of the tractor to inside of right rear tire should be 27 1/2 inches. If plowing deeper than 8 inches add 1 inch to measurement. Do not use swaybars or anything to keep the plow from moving right or left. It will stay where it belongs if the plow is adjusted correctly. When its in the ground it should set level right to left, and front to back. If the cut of the furrow is to wide or to narrow, there is an adjustment on most plows to point it to narrower or wider cut.

Make sure you've got a full set of weights if your ground is hard at all. Dad used to plow with our 285 and Oliver 565 3-16 plow. Was a miserable job and the tractor would buck pretty readily. No draft control on the lower links doesn't help either.

I tried using it this spring for 1 small 2.5 acre field because I didn't want to remove a dual wheel from our Oliver 1855 and use the 4 bottom plow. I'll make this short- I ended up dropping the dual and hooking onto the 4 bottom plow.

The 285 had the front end come up 4-5 ft on several occasions. We only have 5 weights on it. Dad used to have a round chunk of concrete between 4 of the weights (all that would fit) and that helped but still wasn't enough.
