john deere planter history

What model did john deere first come out with
finger meters? I have some old parts here im trying
to id. I think they are pre 7000 parts, I vaguely
remember junking out a jd planter when dad bought
his 7000.

JD, 1200 series planters (1240,50,60,80,90) ;made until about 75'when 7000 came out.. were first to use fingers; they had the alum. case, mounted low on planting unit.. Very high maintence, alum.inside where fingers operated corroded ...1200 series also available plate style... 80 unit planters use same fingers..

A friend gave me a couple of 80 units that he had not cleaned the corn out of and had left out side. There was not much left of the alum housings. We bought a tool bar with 6 80s on it. They had been cleaned out. They were still corroded but with some carful disassembly they were salvageable. The metering units are removed from the planter every year after we are done and they are stored inside. Not the greatest accuracy planting but it works for 20 acres a year.

They are for sale if you need parts..lol..I was just trying to figure out what to do with them. Seems guys want the older planter parts or the newer. Not many guys seem to be into the 1240 planters from what i can tell.
