1207 John Deere Mower Conditioner

I own 2 1207 John Deere Mover conditioners but up to now nobody where able to tell me what is the difference between underserrated and upperserated knifes. Currently I am using underserrated knifes. I have never tried the upperserrated ones. What is the correct knifes for the 1207 machines.

I don't have a JD machine but my Hesston has topserrated sections, the flat bottom cuts on the lower guard.

It never made much difference, to me. I use the overserrated ones, I think, on the 1 remaining sickle mower I have, but I haven't used that one in 10 years. My answer is just use the smooth drum mower blades!

Matters a lot on a sickle mower.

Not as much on a mower conditioner with a reel to clear the hay.

Top serrated will plug up a sickle mower with fine stemmed grass. Many sickle mowers work best with smooth sickles and serrated ledger plates.

But with a reel I most often see smooth guards and top serrated sickles nowadays. Bottom serrated used to be more common, as those could be sharpened a time or two. We aren't as frugal any more.......

You sir are a smart man. I am too. Grin. I just flip mine over and use the other side and then for $1 put in a new one when worn out which takes about 30 seconds.

My last MOCO was a 1209 (9' version of the 7' 1207) and I swore that when I sold it I would never own another sickle bar.

I had a 1209 MOCO. Used both over and under serated knives on stub guards. Book stated one was better for fine hay and grasses, other was best for stem plants. Frankly, couldn't tell any difference; both worked good for me.
