Correct plow for a 70 rowcrop?

Would depend on if a fully mounted or a drag type and then what part of the country you are in. There could be a half dozen that would have been sold with that tractor when new.

Models 55,66,77 and the "H" or hydraulic versions. Probably the 44 was a tad small. As was mentioned pretty sure the 810 was the 3pt version.

3x14" or 3x16" (but I doubt 16")..

Certainly would have had a Gauge Wheel on any fully mounted plow...

Ron..

I think those are too old to be correct, would be a later model like 555 instead of the 55. Those you mentioned date to either 1945 or 1946 with the introduction of power troll on the A, B & G tractors.

Could look to be sure but almost certain the triple numbered series plows (555,666 etc)didn't come out before the 20 series tractors and would bet they weren't sold before the 30 series which would mean "58. I've got a "56; "57; "58; and 1960 Modern Farming and would need to review to be certain.

That's why I'm asking, I'm not sure of the years of plows. If I find one at a sale I'd like to know if it's the right year to go with my 70.

Pull type should be a 555 or 666, if mounted it would be a 813 or 814. the 810 came out with the 620 and 720. 810A with the 30 series.

I just looked at JD parts catalog. 555 and 666 are too new, they would be 55 and 66 for pull type. 813 and 814 are right for mounted. Thanks for the help.

I believe a JD 813 plow would be correct for a 70. I am not sure if mine is an 810 or 813 but it had the "horse head" that you need to connect it to a 70 JD with an 801 hitch. Maybe somebody might know if I have an 813 or 810. Way back in 1955 or so one, of my neighbors bought a new 70 diesel with an 801 hitch and he used a 3 bottom like the one in my picture. A 55 or 66 plow would be a much better plow if you plan on plowing. These 801 hitch plows don't work that well. The 2nd picture is my 70 pulling a 3 bottom 55 plow. Al

Yours is an 813. The base numbering system was 810 and then the third was the number of bottoms. An 812 was two bottoms, 814 was four bottoms. Don't think they had a 811. Believe the smaller tractors such as the 40 went with a model 412.

James, Thank you for the information. Now I understand why I couldn't tell the difference between an 810 and an 813 in the parts manual. Actually, I must have an 814 as I bought it originally with 4 bottoms. I took one off because 4 bottoms were too much for my 70 in my land. Al

The handle and other parts that I can see look just like my 813. It might have been an 812 that someone removed one of the bottoms. Al

I think you're right, it's an 812. I have the missing bottom. It seems I already have a plow of the right vintage just a little small for the 70. Will this plow work with my aftermarket 3 point hitch? Or does it need the 801 hitch?

No it will work just fine with a 3 pt hitch, you just don't use the "horsehead" which you probably don't have anyway. I have had mine hooked to a JD 6230. You might want to find a parts plow to make it a 3-bottom. Two bottoms are not much of a load for a 70. Al
