Can some one post a picture of one of these along with the explaining the proper use of one.

I use a pipe. Slip it over the guard and pull.

Didn't know there is an actual tool for the job.

There is a picture of this tool in the manual for my 488 NH swather. Essentially it is pipe 3-4' long with a u shaped piece of iron with a diameter of about 2.5" welded to the pipe about 3" from one end. The U slides over the end of the guard and the end of the pipe slides under the guard and allows for bending the guard up or down to get the sickle to register correctly. The manual is in the shop at another farm, I'll get it tomorrow and scan a pic if no one else chimes in.

Animal, i made on from a 5 foot lenth of 1/16 wall 1 1/4 inch square tubing i had kicking around... welded a long cain link (from an old harrow chain) to the box section abouy 4 inches from the end. Chain link over guard tang, bar under guard bolt and reef on it. Also very useful as a cheater bar for a lrge cresent wrench (but you didn't hear me say that)... If i remember i will take a photo tomorrow when i go to the shop.

All I ever use is a hammer or a pipe that just fits over the guard and lift up or down etc as needed. I think 1-1/2 inch pipe about 4 foot long is about right unless your getting old then you use a 8 footer

I use a pipe too, not sure what size but I have a few different ones around and just find one that seems to fit.

Sincew I'm an elder now and couldn't find a pipe around here the right size...I bought one from hesston...$19+. I use stub guards and my new one don't work with stub guards. It is still here...unused!
If you use long guards Animal, send me your address and I'll ship this one
