New Holland Super 68 baler

I am rebuilding the pickup on this baler and tjhere is more wrong than right. Bushings are missing and the bars are broken in half and been rewelded and broke again. Does anyone have a parts diagram breakdown for this pickup. How does this entire mechanism come off the baler???

I would seriously consider junking it.Price the parts before you go any further.Closely inspect the rest of the machine.I'll bey the rest of it is worn out.Pay close attention to the bearings.I was in the same boat with a 283.I bought a decent 283 for less than the cost of parts....Removeing the pickup is a real PIA!you must remove the cross shaft underneath,the cast sprockets will probably break.Your baler is OLD and obsolete.You would be well advised to replace it.Even if you do get the pickup fixed,the rest of the machine will be 'time bomb' waiting to go BOOM!Get rid of it.Just my humble opinion.Steve
 
Dont know what you paid for this BUT.... I bought a N.H. Super 65 when I bought my first baler 15 years ago or so not knowing anything about them. I paid 200 for it which I thought was a steel until I ended up replacing a bunch of stuff worth about $800. So I had a 1000 dollar baler that wasnt worth 200.. And I did use it for a couple years but always was workin on it and babyin it BUT I did learn alot about balers doing that and when I bought a 273 lator on I knew what I was looking at and what do look for.. I bought the 273 for $1100 at auction and still use it today.
 
"Old and Obsolete" 90% of my equipment is old and obsolete. I restore old and obsolete tractors and equipment, and make them "functional and relevant" I can tell you several stories about farmers buying brand new and having issues. There isnt a baler or tractor built today that will still be running 60 years from now. This website is "Yesterdays Tractors" Not "todays expensive computerized plastic tractors"
 
I have done the same work on my 68 when I bought it. Take off the other two bands, then all the teeth, there are then cottor pins near the 3 circle brackets, need to slide the circles to the inside end, take the bearing off the other end that goes in the cam track. Hopefully the cam track if ok, the bars can be straighten and fixed, put a piece of shaft in them and drill some holes, the bars are hollow. Get a diagram from NH website so you put it back together right. Don't buy new bars, very high priced if you can find them. Many junk balers around if you need some parts. Put new teeth in if you can. Let me know if you have any more questions.

size=9:e83eadafb0][/size:e83eadafb0][/size I agree with you 100 percent this new equipment won't last near as long as the new stuff nieghbor son bought a new combine first day out it dies in the field circuit bord was fried new combine too 3 day wait for the part
 
Craig,I also farm "old and obsolete".My equipment is all from the 50s/60s ....I've worked on that "junk" my entire career.,Some times you just have to realize(and admit) the old machine just isnt worth fixing anymore.I have fixed more stuff that should have been junked,it cost lots more time/money than practicle,plus it always breaks in the most critical time(old balers are notorious for that).I had a 282 that had the same prob;lem as yours.After tearing it apart,I realized it was to used up to fix.Later I dismantled it to salvage good parts.EVERY bearing was bad,lots more stuff was worn out.Later pd 1200 for a super nice 283.that just WORKED.Good luck on the repair.
