help identifying Dearborn-Woods Bros 1 row corn picker

hi I have an old 1 row Dearborn-Word Bros 1 row corn picker
from the early 1950s that was given to me by the original owners son as he was about to scrap it, I'm not exactly sure of
the year or the model but I do know it was originally engine
driven and was converted to pto later on. Also noted that it
has the head on the left which would easily set back in the 40s
or 50s I would think. It's hard to make out the color from all
the rust but I do believe it was red at one time and I can still
barely make out the Dearborn logo on the elevator. I plan on
starting the restoration here sometime in the near future and I
would like to know a little more about it.

The red units were made from 1946 thru 1955 and had Wood-Bros.-Dearborn on them while later models were still red but carried the Ford name. They were first designed back in the 1930's for the Fordson tractor and had a lot of galvanize on them, then about the start of WW2 they made a style change and relocated the wheel under the husking bed. There is a big cross pipe on the back and that is where the model tag is. Later red units used a different husking bed setup and had a blower on for the trash that the earlier ones did not have. Manuals are avaible but site will not let address be given. email for it. I have a grey unit that would have been made about the time my tractors, a 41 9n & a 44 2N were made.

I have never heard of one being powered by an engine and the hitch is not strong enough to carry an engine.

Here is a 1951 picker. Does it look like this?

Never saw one quite like that one. We had a few of'em. That one looks like just a snapper without a husking bed. All of ours had husking beds.

No husking bed, but if the corn is good and dry, it will husk most of it. The left hand head is weird after running square balers all these years. I guess it is good for my neck to look back to the left some.

Yes that's the one. That one looks like it may be a
few years older than mine as it appears to have been
painted Ferguson gray but other than that it looks
the same. Does that mean it is a model 16-4? That's
what was mentioned for the picker in the link you
sent me.

On the picker the wagon elevator is outside the right wheel and husking bed is over the right wheel. For a short time they did acouding to some lit make a snapper only and that is what that one would be but I have never seen one.

Rich - this picker used to be owned by a friend of mine north of KC (Dearborn, MO)...he sold it to another friend of mine from Jonesberg, MO and I let him keep it at my farm in central MO for the last 5 years. He recently gave it to me. So if this picker was sold to someone from Dearborn a while back it just might be....

I ask because I found and bought a Dearborn picker right after high school. I wasn't using it and my dad needed the shed space so I sold it to a couple who lived in northern Missouri. It has been quite a few years ago, 8 years ago maybe. I saw that first picture and had a feeling that may have been the picker I had. I doubt there were many that had been repainted orange, and are still in that good of shape.
