John Deere M1 Plow Pic

Here is some pics of the M1 plow I bought for the 1950 M JD. How do I measure the size of the plow correctly? I believe it is a 18" bottom. It started to clean up some already just plowing up the garden. Ground is to nasty to do anymore now. I ordered and have the manual for it so I can set it up correctly. Its gonna be alot of fun at plow days.

Nice plow...Nice Condition..

Looks like it will need some adjusting..and I think I would shine that Jointer up a tad and move it forward, to the Coulter..!!

Ron..

You did good!!You measure the width of cut,not the length of the share. As was said, across from the landside to the far corner of the share.

How close should the jointer be to coulter? I don"t see that specification in the manual.

The plow was behind the M John Deere it was bought new with before I got it. The guy just repainted the tractor and didn"t want the plow. He said he remembers the jointer always being that far back.

The pics in the manual do show the jointer being much closer than it is now though. I"m ready for nice weather to get it dialed in and go to plow days. Gotta adjust my wheels to...manual says 42'' they are set at 38'' right now.

Nice job for $200! That should clean up nicely. The jointer should be close enough to the coulter to provide "cleaning" of the dirt that sticks to the coulter but not touching it.

I just went out and measured the plow but now that I think of it I bet I did it wrong. I measured from end of landslide to end of share.

The way I did it it came out to be a 16'' plow.

You are correct in that it is a 16", where you were thinking 18" they never made that size that I know of. 12-14 or 16" and that 16" will pull about the same as a 2-12" would because with the 16" you should be plowing 8" deep where on a 2-12" you should be plowing 6" deep so the extra depth increases the power required.

The manual lists a 18'' bottom for the M1 plow. Must not have been common though.
