Brought my new baler home. First piece of new farm equipment I"ve ever bought. Now what to do with the old one. It will still bale but the life expectancy is unknown. I won"t sell it to anyone without them knowing everything I know about it. That said should I sell it at all, part it out or just take it to the scrapper. If it goes therei will probably pull off a few parts that will fit the new baler but i probably will never use them--at least I hope I don"t. It"s an NH 315. What would you do?

| As the others have said, take it to a consignment sale a baler in running condition of any state is a hot item around here right now. What model baler did you end up buying?

| | I would just take it to a consignment auction. There are many people that would like your baler. They maybe just baling a few bales and your may work years for them. Also there are many Amish in my area that will buy one like yours and completely rebuild it to use. Your NH 315 would bring form $1000-2000 even with a lot of wear. I would not just scrap it. It will bring more as a whole unit. Plus selling at an auction you are selling it AS-IS. That way you have no issues as to it working down the road. That would be the buyers responsibility. You take that on when you by a used piece at an auction. I have boughten things guys told me later they had worn clear out. I then used them for years with just working on them. I was glad to get it to work with. Had labor but not a lot of money then.

| I would think a baler that new would be worth more than scrap. Even the old 67/68 NH balers seem to go in the 500+ range if they are complete and not frozen up. If you don't want to mess with selling it yourself you could see about consigning it for an auction in the spring, maybe.

| | Thanks. The new baler I bought is a New Holland BC 5050. It is the smallest of the current production NH balers. I think I'll try and sell the 315 before it goes to scrap. I will probably put it on Craigslist for $1200 and see what happens. The nearest consignment auctions are more that 60 miles away. Probably not the best time to sell a baler but I don't have covered space to store it now that the new baler is here and I hate to see it sit out in the weather. If anyone is interested I'm in SW Washington State.

| I'm sure there is someone out there who would buy it. If they had one like it for the spare parts if nothing else.
