Tractor Logging Winch

Anyone ever build a 3 point logging winch, or have one for sale. Looking for something for a 60 HP tractor. I just cant justify 4K for a new one.

Don't know of any deals on one but I bought a 9000Lb Wallenstein a few years back for $3500 new. I suspect they are higher now. I compared it to the Farmi 9000 and it weighed almost twice as much and was built a lot ruggeder. Both the same price. I am very happy with it. First one I have ever had but don't know how I ever got by without it. 165 feet of cable saves a lot of road making. You will definitely want a snatch block for trees leaning the wrong way. I use mine a lot, seems every tree is leaning the wrong way. Also can help you get out of a snag. Just my 2 cents worth.

Here is a link to a thread with some pictures of my winch. Paid $150 for the winch and then figured out how to mount it. I will need to beef up the frame since one leg is starting to bend after I took these pictures. The tractor does have the grill back on now, though.

I have 2 that were made from truck/car rearends. Basicaly shorten the housings and axles, put the drum on one side and the wheel and brake on the other. Putting the brake on stops that side and makes the other turn, winding in the cable. Any good welder/machinist could make one like mine but at today's rates it would be as cheap to buy one.

I traded into a Braden winch off a duece and a half. Tractor PTO runs opposite of what the winch needs. FYI.

I have a TracTor brand winch that is made for a Ford or Massey. bolts onto the tractor where the drawbar attaches & to where the top link attaches to the tractor. Runs off the PTO. I bought it a couple of years ago and haven't gotten around to needing it yet, so I'd be willing to part with it. I'm located in S.E. Ohio & email's open Keith

Lots of 3 point hay mowers have a heavy pipe-type mounting arrangement- an inverted "U", with 3 point pins on both lower ends, and top link mount at the top (picture a Ford 501 mower, for instance). They never bring more than 50 bucks around here.

Take all the mower stuff off the mounting "U". Get one of those cheap electric winches from Northern Tool (100 bucks or so)- mount toward the top, near the top link, hook to electrics of the tractor, and you're off and running.

This would not be a real heavy duty outfit, but would be fine for firewood, which is what I need.

Although not a winch this option work well for me. The box blade using a chain to hook up the log keeps the log from digging in while skidding also keeping some of the dirt of the log. At the landing the box blade is used to push the logs into a pile. I useally hook a long cable with chain to drag the log to where I can get at it with the blade. It wouldn't be hard to hook up a winch to the box blade. Where are you located in Pa? I have a winch I would consider selling.

I was going to mount this one on a 3pt platform/carrier and never got around to it. Might sell it. It should be good for pulling logs. The guy I bought it from used it to pull a D9 cat on his trailer.
