Ah the memories! Dad used a bean puller on the red kidney beans that he grew. He used the knife type that bolted onto his mounted 2 row JD cultivator frame. The knives were about four feet long and ran just beneath the surface of the soil to slice the roots off and then lifted the plants a few inches out of the ground and into a windrow. We would let them dry down in the sun for a few days before using a pickup head on the harvester to thresh them. The theory behind the puller was to get all the pods into the combine. Direct cutting them with a wheat header would leave a lot of the low pods on the ground. I have seen the rod type pullers at farm shows but never used one. [Reply]   [No Email]
