PTO shaft Length

I recently purchased a 990 mower conditioner at an auction minus the correct front half of the PTO drive shaft. Somebody put a very obvious wrong shaft with it instead of correct one. I have another shaft here but is too long. I would like to find out what the correct measurements for the actual shaft and shield. I would even consider buying one if anyone has one to sell.
Thank you.

Sorry but I do not know the length, but most implements like that used about the same shaft,at least Deere did.I have a large pile of shafts and most equipment uses the same one.The IH 990 was a very good machine,we had two seven ft. machines and mowed lots of hay with them.We changed to NH because we thought that in alfalfa the rolls in the NH made hay dry faster, but in grass the 990 was a great machine. There is a Fry's machinery in Muncy PA that has a huge implement parts yard and I am sure they would have the correct shaft.Sorry but I can not find the phone number.

I have one, it even still has the shield. Where are you located?

I have numerous pto shafts, only one will fit but it is too long, I think I can cut it to fit but have not found another 990 available to get the measurements.

Fairly simple to ascertain the correct length. Just hook your 990 to your tractor, turn tractor 90 degrees to cutter with NEW(used) shaft installed on tractor then set the 2 pto shafts(one installed on tractor pto & 990 shaft) side by side and cut to correct length. At the 90 degree turn the shafts will never slide any closer together than they are right then.

Unless the tractor's front is heading up-hill..

Give it a little more slack..

The hill you refer to would have to be a lot higher than I would want to drive a tractor up

Ha..yea.. but ya never know about crossing uneven ground...!

Today's larger equipment won't give much..just breaks something..!

I was always under the impression that the 2 halves should be the same length, so I would suspect if you made the front the same length as the back 1/2, you'd be set.

Doing as I described above the shafts would be close to the same length and would be the same with an Equal Angle hitch.
