Rotary-Disk Mower storage.

Does it hurt to store for the winter a rotary disc mower in the up position? I know safety wise the book says store in horizontal position. My sheds are more suitable to backing it in hooked to a tractor with bar up. Too much oil drain a problem?

Are there any leaks on the bottom end of the bar? Would seem oil would accumulate all at the bottom. Would want to make sure lubrication was well distributed before use in the spring.

Assuming it's a gear bed oil bath mower I don't see any problems with the oil. When you get it out and lay it flat the oil will move to the ends of the bar. You might want to lay it flat, turn it over a few times to get the oil circulating, then let it sit for aminute or so to let the oil settle into the bearings, but since the gears act as little oil pumps I cant's see any problems. I would be more concerned with safely chaining the bar upright to a post or something so it will stay upright. I've only seen one mower that was designed to sit upright when taken off the tractor.

I would want it down but up on blocks, that is how I stored the drum mower that I used to have. A lot just get left wherever they were last used, then the challenge in the spring is to find it. LOL

I check and change the bed's oil. Then park it with the bed sitting on a rimmed tire under both ends. Then grease (coat) the hyd cyl shafts.
