My mahindra would not go into reverse. The local dealers aren't much help...one suggested i had a ford 4500! after removing the shifter cover, some of the gearing is visible, and the syncros are where you can see them. The reverse one is worn so as not to let the gears mesh.Only the reverse one, which seems to me to be an engineering flaw or a bad part. So, how to fix without splitting the tractor? I have tried to "spot" weld the 3 worn tabs with a mig welder, shielding everything possble with reynolds wrap. Results were poor (weld wise) as there is no way to prep or preheat the syncro and I'm not 100% sure what its made of. But it did work so far as the trator now shifts into reverse. No, it's not the best fix, but it didn't cost me a couple of thousand to have a dealer do it (yet). We will see how long it lasts. Someone suggested TIG weld might have better results. Hope this helps somebody else.
