Potato Digger Chain

The chain on my potato digger is about wore out beyond use. the brand of the digger is not known, i'm thinking it could be a deere/hoover but not sure. The chain is NOT the hooked link type but its rods made to flat pieces of metal about 2 inches long, there is a hole at the top and bottom of each piece and the rod is inserted in the hole and then mushroomed out. i would like to go to the hooked link style chain if i could. the chain is 19 3/4" wide

the chain you describe sounds like what is called Linderman chain, its no longer available so your choises are either hook chain or belted chain, both are available in whatever size you need because it can be custom made to your specs. Noffsinger Mfg and Specialized chain both make chain for your needs.Make sure you get new drive sprockets for your chain when you order the chain the old ones will ruin your new chain in short order. If you need new carrier rollers for your digger go to agpartsmfg.com and check out the online catalog for whats available there.

I added a couple of photos of the digger on the implement photo section, if you might know what brand of digger this is, i would love to know, the back photo shows some of the chain

I have that exact digger (or so I think). Mine doesn't have the back style that yours has. If you look on ebay for potato digger chain they have a few links there to whole sets. Might be worth a look. Heres a pic of mine.

when you order your chain there are certain things you will need to provide to get the correct size chain, first is the width of the chain in inches, then the pitch of the chain which is the distance between rods center to center( this is measured in metric form) 50 pitch is industry standard which is a 50mm distance on rod centers, but you can order in other pitchs also. then you will need to know how many total links you will need to go all the way around your digger, by using hook chain you can get extra and pull links out to make it the right length for your machine and have extra pieces for when you bend a link or two now and then. haveing seen your pics you are looking at a cost of around $700 to a $1000 just for the chain. unless someone cuts you a great deal on the price.

Your potato digger looks just like mine! I'm sure we have the same make. I've been trying to find out who made mine for years with no success. Any idea who made yours? I'd be happy to trade digger photos/info with you.
My email is open.
