DISC IDENTIFICATION

Found an old drag disc on the family farm. trying to identify it would like to maybe restore it if i can. It is an 8 foot drag disc that was pulled by a 1954 Case VAC tractor.

That appears to be an offset disc. I can't imagine any VAC in the world could possibly pull it if it's 8 foot wide. Maybe I'm wrong and it isn't an offset, but in my ground even a regular 8 foot double gang would need a lot more HP than any of my VACs could muster.

An 8 foot offset usually needs over 80 hp to use effectively.

I agree it appears to be an offset but a light weight one. It won't take 80 HP to pull it. Back in my youth I plowed with a 6' Killifer(JD) and used a late model JD B tractor. The tractor pulled it just fine.

looks like a tandem disc to me it's just set in transport (gangs set straight) as light as it is I would think a VAC could pull it but not have a run away for sure I pull a 71/2 ft 3pt with a VA 1st and 2nd gear cnt

i rode with my dad one the VAC and we pulled this in 2nd gear with rocks piled on for extra weight... it could do it in 3rd but it just pulled better in 2nd.

Look closely ,that is a 'tandem',a very old one at that.Look a the cup of the disks from either side and at the center. It is just in the "transport" position. It also lacks the 'angleing mechanisims' of an offset.

i agree DeltaRed it is a tandem and if i had to guess it would be from around the mid 50's thats when my great grandfather bought the VAC and all the implements. It a has the handle crank at the front to adjust the gangs. He was a big Case we still have the case 2 bottom plow and at one point there were also cultivators that mounted.. haven't been able to find any pictures of drag discs that Case made that look like this though. thanks for the input!

Typical drag tandem disk.

Would look like an IH in a lot of ways, but that crank up front has me stumped, never saw a disk with a crank like that, so probably not IHC or JD, perhaps a Case? I'm not familiar with old Case disks....

thanks for the input Paul!! have been checking around but haven't found a case that looks like this either. i might try posting on the case forum and see if i have any luck there.

don't believe it is a Case. the Case disc had a telescoping tongue in the 50's to adjust the angle. if it was a Case it would have an eagle on it somewhere.
