Disc problem

I have a 3pt 8' krause disc that doesn't seem heavy enough to get more than an inch or so in to my heavy clay / loam bottom ground. This is the only disc i've ever had so i don't have any comparison. The disc is in good shape no broken disks and very minimal rust. I was thinking that it is just too light a disc for this particular ground. Would a heavier wheel type disc be the ticket?

i am a no till operation and only break out the disc to smooth out ground where required

thanks

paul

i keep a few old Ford 460 engines around to put on my 6.5' 3 point disk when i need to in hard ground...weight is the answer most of the time.

Only disc I ever saw that would disc in hard ground.
It was a 20 ft. Disc with the two 4 ft. Sections folded up over the disc for extra weight.
It would cut good in hard ground pulled by a Jd 4320.

Try putting serrated or notched discs on it, in the front, should make it penetrate better, but wear faster.

On plowed ground, you should have a problem with keeping the disc from going in too deep...
Are you sure your 3-point is allowing the disc to drop all the way..??
Is the disc rusty to the point that the discs are not cutting cleanly..?
As said before, you might need to add some weight to it..a few cement blocks, rocks, etc..?

Ron..

I have a 10' Krause disk that behaves the same way, I am going to add weight to the disk. I am thinking about 500 pounds.

My H will pull it without weight, gonna use the 6610 on it with weight.
