How can you tell if its not a no till planter. I thought they were all no til? Then Im told some are for tilled ground thanks

None of the 7000's were No till planters stock, you need to have trash whippers and covering wheels on them to no till. If its not listed as No till, its not.

No-Till will have a wavy cutting disk in front of the disk openers.

7000 4 and 6 row conventional planters have the wheels carried by a common axle rockshaft. 7000 conservation (not no-till) planters have individual wheel frames with master/slave hydraulic lift cylinders.

The conservation or no-till planters had a heavier frame 7"x7" as opposed to the standard 5"x7" used in the conventional planters. I am sure that other changes were made but the stronger frame is easily used to identify the different planters.

the 7000's set up for no-till usually have heavier down pressure springs but the standard ones will plant into most anything except concrete, 4 and 6row narrow planters have a 5x7 bar, 6rw, 8rn/w ect. have 7x7 bars it has nothing to do with being a no-till planter or not, make sure to get Precision corn meters

heres my neighbors customized 7000/7100 planter set up. it does 19 rows. 10 up front and 9 in the back. it is set up for no till. i was built from 2 planters, and its set up for soybeans. does a nice job.

A no till planter will have a tillage coulter either frame mounted or unit mounted ahead of the planter openers. Thats the big wavy coulters just ahead of the opener discs in the picture. Frames will vary some in weight, but penetration is better with the heavier frames. The tillage coulter works up a narrow strip ahead of the opener to allow the planter unit to place the seed at a proper depth before closing the slot over the seed as it is dropped. Most of these coulters only rip up a 1 to 1 1/2 strip of soil, and will do so in sod or most soils under most conditions. Trash wheels also help clear the seed furrow of debris ahead of the units.
