Offset disc question

This might be a bit of a stupid question but here it is. I bought a Krause offset 1482 model. 13ft or so. Anyhow on the right hand side the main frame has 3/4" or so holes with a pin that drops into them that keeps the gangs from moving backwards. Now these are also held in place with big clamps. I see other kinds that do not use the pins. Are they prone to sliding?? I am going to make some caps to go over the holes out of plate steel to keep dirt and water out, I cleaned it out and want to close it off because it will rust it out badly. And if I can get by without the pins I can cover all the holes.

I've got a Krause offset porbably 40 years old and it hasn't rusted out and it has never been out of the weather. If you close up the holes you can never adjust it for different conditions.

I have never seen a frame like that rusted out.The whole machine will be long past worn out before rust is an issue. If you are that concerned ,simply cleanout thedirt once a year or so.If rust was a serious problem, dont you think the equipment designers would considered that?

That is what those holes and pins are for is changing the angle for different conditions. That is what makes some models worth a lot more than others. You would be killing the worakability of the machine doing something like that.

The back of the frame by the rear gang was nearl full of dirt and I could see water in the front part with no way out. The first thing I did was drill a hole in the back and washed it all out then run a hose through it with water then a drain cleaning cable. If I do put covers on it they will be held on with clamps nothing welded so they can be removed. And I will leave the pins my better judgment tells me to use them. This Might have been a stupid question but I am a poor man and am proud of what little I have and want to take care of it. Equipment is big $$$ to a poor man.

Wyler,I too am a 'poorman'.Most if not all of my equipment is somebody else's discards.I learned to weld, etc so I could have something to farm with. Most of my neighbors lock up their bonepiles when they se me comming,LOL!Only in the last 5 years or so have I bougfht some newer equipment(its still old). All my equipment sits out,I dont have a shed.all my disks, cultivators ,etc.that have hollow bars have never 'rusted out'.
