I have what I believe is a Kewanne 144 disk with what were 16" blades on the front and 18" on the back. I need to replace a few on the front, and was wondering if I could put all new 18" blades on the front? Seems like they wear faster and would give me all new sharp blades doing the initial cutting. Rear blades are between 17 and 17.5" now.

Secondly, the bearings are rusted on. They have a round cast housing over them that does not give me much to pry against and I dont want to break that casting. Whats the procedure or best way for getting those blades off? Thanks!!

The fronts were 18" originally, they are worn off that much..You may have to 'split the gang nut with a chisel,or resort to the 'smoke wrench'.Cut it off if needed, you can always buy a new nut. There should be a square 'boss' just behind the gangnut to use for back up.Or take a big pipewrench, grip the spacer and wedge it into the disk frame .

The fronts probably were 18" but may have been a 20" blade as they would fit and the 20" blade would do a better job of working the ground but will cost twice as much as the 18" blade. They were avaible with the already wore out 16" blade from factory for the purchaser that did not want to spend the money on a proper sized blade, That disk if the blades are down to 17" they are completely wore out. Had one and it was not a very good cutting disk. Mostly used the smaller McCormick that we could angle the blades on and set at half angle would cut better that the Kewanneat any time. You will wear out 2 sets of blades on front for every set on the back. You should get by for several years with new 18" blades on the front and it will not be long till they are equal to back blades in size.

Gang nut, spacer and first disc is off but the bearing is rusted on. Not really anything to pry against, whats the best way to get bearing off? Feel good still so hoping to avoid torching it.
