JD 6F chopper

Anyone know anything about or have opinion on a JD 6F chopper? Has a single row corn head and hay head. I need something, this might fit the bill.

JD #6 model forage harvesters are flywheel type cutterhead machines. Old design machines that became obsolete with advent of cylinder type cutterheads that had built in knife sharpening capability. Big silage blower type wheel with 6 knives bolted to the side of the wheel and, I think, 3 blower paddles on the outside circumference. Knives must be removed from their mounts to sharpen them . Large V-Belt on pulleys drives cutterhead. The things blew chopped material well. One in operating condition will still get the job done for a small operator's needs. I still have one with sickle bar head on it setting in a shed. Have operator manual that I could get specs. for you if needed.

Do you live in an area where there are Amish? They are probaly the only people left who have the proper equipment to sharpen the knives on a No.6. You have to remove the knives have them sharpened and reinstall and readjust them. For a small farm with limited use it is an ok harvester if in good shape but do not mess with a piece of junk.We have two of the No.12's that we use for fun and cut a dozen or two loads each year.A better harvester would be a Deere 34 or 38 or a New Holland 717 the IH 350 was good as well.Fox made a good harvester but there are no parts to be had anymore.

Thanks for the replies. It wasn't in bad shape at all and sharpening the blades is no big deal for me. But, it went for over $300.00 which was about $100.00 more than I was willing to pay AND (!!!) they sold the corn head separate for another hundred and some bucks. Way too much. No biggie though, I was standing with a friend watching this and he told me he had a JD 30-something chopper in the hedgerow I could have if it was still there. It was a spare about 6 choppers ago so if it's there I'll take a look.
