Horse drawn 3pt conversion

I'm looking to convert my old McCormick Deering 2 row planter to three point hitch. Would a float 3pt hitch help? Any photos of anybody else's conversion.

That planter is a horse drawn planter with a factory tractor conversion hitch put on and set back for horses it would be worth as much as a factory made 3 point planter. Just this summer I picked up a John Deere 999 that had been converted over for 3 point hitch and it will be converted back to a horse toung for use. But the time the farmer gets it the price is going to be 6-700$. $200 for planter plus $200 transporation plus the dealer referbing.

I like your thinking Leroy. Also they aren't making any more of these planters either, and when you look at the condition of that one it would be a shame to cut it up.

I shorten the tongue because it had some rot and removed the tractor conversion attachment. I can pull it around with an 8n or my cub but would like to convert it to 3pt without hacking it all up so if I want to return it back to original shape I can.
Here are a couple of the reasons why. Now it's a two man operation with the 3pt it would be a one man.
The sprocket on the axle has been welded so it's engaged all the time you can't disengage it without taking off the chain which would have to be done at the end of the rows which are usually short rows. With the 3pt just raise it up at the end of the row and the wheels will stop moving.
Our hunting club is about 300 acres and we have serveral small food plots and to get there some of the trails are steep and rocky. some spots are easier to access by drive the tractor down the rode a ways. 3pt would make this also easier.

Yes I will take some more pictures later on today. This three point you can take off and put it back to horse drawn. You don't have to cut anything so you do not ruin a pice of history.

i had an old team planter once.
someone had made a 3 pt conversion for it.
the old planter worked great with this 3pt hitch

I found a picture of this one on the internet and the hitch looks just like the one i had.
Note: if you build one, you must make the support runners go back far enough so that when you pickup the planter that the runners fit under the axle of the planter, as these planters were never designed to be picked up so you must support the wheels and axle.
good luck,
