I just bought a NI 324 Gathering unit with 326 Husker.
The short front section of the pto shaft will not telescope out to the tractor. I have soaked it from both directions, and tried beating on crowbar through front u-joint with BFH and it still won't move. The rod is completed enclosed with shield from end to end..
What next? Remove rear cross and take to IH SHop in town?

It's not supposed to. That whole carrier bearing tips ahead. The part that slides apart is the rear half behind the carrier.

The carrier bearing is supported by a vertical support that is bolted to the frame and won't tilt forwArd,. I have the tilting forward pto shaft on a baler.
So maybe every time you hook up you loosen that support, slide it forward, fit the pto then bolt it in position? Lossen and slide back to remove?

Something's not right there. A 324/325,that carrier should be a U shaped yoke on top of about an inch rod. That rod is adjustable up and down so you can set it for the tractor you're using it on. It slips in to the end of another inch shaft that goes through the tongue. There should even be a grease zerk on the end of it to grease it where it pivots.
Never saw one that was any different than that.

I just looked at a parts manual. Yep the rear shaft is telescoping, the front, not so much. The manual discusses the height of the pto , but not how to change length. Thanks will give it a shot in the am. Just lost one can of PBBlaster.
Thanks for the tip.

A little after dark inspection with a light and you are exactly right. Perfect description of the bracket. Shot it up with PB and will get at it again in the am . Thanks again.
Sounds like you had one back in the day.
Are those finger assemblies on the husker supposed to be different length?

Ya,I've got a 325 with a 326 bed in the toolshed and a 325 with a 327 bed sitting in the field right now. Yes,on a 326,those fingers are progressively shorter.

I got the vertical shaft out after some serious hammering.
Now the clamp with the horizontal shaft, THROUGH the middle of the tongue, is really frozen. I've beat on the stub end with a 12 lb sledge and moved it 3/8 of an inch. I can put a 5 foot pipe in there and turn it down 60 degrees with all my weight on it. But it's not giving up easy. Appears at one time there was a grease fitting on the stub end but it's not there now and lots of pitting there.
And I just sold my blue wrench a few weeks ago.
