Du-Al mfg--seals needed

This message is a reply to an archived post by Bob Rose on July 07, 2008 at 12:57:07. The original subject was "DuAl mfg Sioux Falls S. Dakota parts needed". I know this is an old request, BUT for anyone installing seals in Du-Al"s old style hydraulic cylinders (seals roughly look like the sidewalls of tires), these cylinders MUST NOT be used with modern hydraulic fluid because it will dissolve the seals. The old style cylinders were designed to use old motor oil.

Steven is dead wrong. U-cup seals are still used extensively on older cylinders using all manner of modern hydraulic oils. Prime examples are Ford industrial backhoes and loaders built before about 1980. Ford never specified engine oil for these hydraulic systems (1965 to 2000).
